Highlights of the Hockey India League Closed Bid
Six franchises spent USD 1.37 million in total to successfully bid for 49 India and foreign players, with India's Ramandeep Singh the costliest at USD 81000.

Six Hockey India League (HIL) franchises, including the new Bhubaneshwar franchise Kalinga Lancers, bought 49 players spending a total amount of USD 1.37 million in the Closed Bid held on Friday. A total of 154 India and foreign players were part of the bid, but only 49 players from Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Argentina, Ireland, England, South Africa and India were selected by the franchises for bidding. Pakistan players were not part of the pool as their federation didn't give its players the required no-objection certificate (NOC) .

Kalinga Lancers bought 24 of those 49 players as they had to build their team from scratch. Of the 49 players lapped up, 28 were Indians and 21 from overseas. Among other five franchises, Ranchi Rhinos bought one player, Mumbai Magicians 11, Uttar Pradesh Wizards four, Punjab Warriors five and Delhi Waveriders four.

1. Total players sold: 49 (28 Indians, 21 overseas)

2. Total money spent by six franchises: $1.37 million

3. New franchise: Bhubaneswhar-based Kalinga Lancers. Joint Owners: Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) and Mahanadi Coalfield Limited (MCL). Mentor: Dilip Tirkey. Coach: Terry Walsh

4. Breakup of 49 players sold: Kalinga Lancers 24, Mumbai Magicians 11, Punjab Warriors 5, Delhi Waveriders 4, Uttar Pradesh Wizards 4 and Ranchi Rhincos 1.

5. Costliest Player/Costliest Indian: Ramandeep Singh, bought by UP Wizards for $81000.

6. Costliest Overseas Player: Ryan Archibald of New Zealand, bought by Kalinga Lancers for $71000.
