Jaipur: Actress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Hema Malini's driver has been arrested for over-speeding, negligent driving after the actor's Mercedes car collided with a Maruti Alto car one killing a 5-year-old child. The incident took place near Dausa in Rajasthan while she was on her way to Jaipur.
Hema Malini had suffered minor injuries and is out of danger. She was admitted to a local hospital in Jaipur after the accident.
Rajasthan Minister Rajpal Singh who visited Hema Malini said she has not suffered any serious injuries but will be undergoing a plastic surgery to fix tissue damage above her eyebrow.
"Injuries are not serious the CAT scan reports said there is no injury in brain and there is no spinal injury but there is small cut on forehead and doctors do plastic surgery. Three more people were there in car but they are safe," Singh said.
"Hema ji has injured herself above one eye, her back and her legs. She was in considerable pain. When she came here, she walked into the hospital herself. The accident took place as the other car was coming from the wrong side," physiotherapist in a private hospital Dr. Shiv Sharma said.
There were five occupants in the Alto car - 2 women, 2 children and a man. A 5-year old girl child in the Alto car died in the accident while two of the remaining survivors were seriously injured.
An eyewitness said the Alto car was entering the bypass road from a side road on the highway when the collision occurred.
Besides the driver and Hema Malini, two other persons were reported to be travelling with her in the star's luxury vehicle.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje expressed grief at the mishap. She tweeted:"Deeply saddened by the news of Dausa accident. I pray for the victims. We're making all efforts to provide immediate relief & medical care.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan also tweeted: "Just heard the news of unfortunate motor accident of party colleague Smt. Hema Malini ji (@dreamgirlhema). Wishing her a speedy recovery. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family of the deceased baby girl."
