In an interesting development, Telangana Jagruthi president Kavitha called on TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu at his party office Wednesday and sought his support to pet peeve: there’s no statue of Ambedkar’s statue on the Assembly premises.
The arrival of the Telangana firebrand at the TDP office caused quite a flutter.
The TDP office has been beyond the bounds for non- TDP Telangana leaders in the wake of the agitation by Mala Mahanadu activists who are riled by Naidu’s stand in support of categorisation of Scheduled Castes.
But seeing the daughter of K Chandrasekhar Rao himself come in through the portals with a delegation of Dalit leaders, TDP security staff rolled out the red carpet.
Kavitha spent about 15 minutes with Naidu and explained to him the purpose of her visit.
Nadiu, supporting her cause, told her he has already written to the speaker demanding an statue of Ambedkar on the Assembly premises.
“I do not know know why there’s been no action.
Your suggestion should be welcomed by one and all,” Nadiu was quoted as telling Kavitha.
Kavitha told Express later that she had decided to intensify the agitation for an Ambedkar statue since there was no response from the Congress.
“When I give the idea, their response was cold.
I think they are afraid I will get the credit,” she said.
Kavitha is planning to meet leaders of other opposition parties to enlist their support.
“I have already met TRS leader Etela Rajender.
I have sought an appointment with YSR Cong honorary president Vijayamma and MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi,” she said.
Kavitha said she did not raise Telangana issue with Naidu since the purpose of her visit was different.
She said it was not awkward being in Chandrababu Naidu’s presence.
She had once shared a dais with him while campaigning for her father when he contested from Mahabubnagar constituency in the 2009 election.
