India conveyed its concern to Australia over recurring attacks on Indians.

New Delhi: India on Friday conveyed its growing concern to Australia over recurring attacks on Indians there and asked the country to take all necessary steps to improve safety and security of its citizens there.

During a meeting, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi told visiting Victorian Premier John Brumby that New Delhi was worried about continuing attacks on Indians and asked him to keep New Delhi informed about follow up action against those involved in the crimes.

On his part, Brumby tried to ease concerns about the safety of Indians living there and said it will not tolerate any attacks on international students and that strong punishment was being given to those involved in such crimes.

Admitting that some cases might have had racial motivations, he said the Government has decided to increase the jail term of those found to be involved in racial attacks.
