Govt assures: Bangalore's IT hub was not the target

Bangalore: Hours after nine serial blasts hit Bangalore, the Government allayed fears that the city’s IT hub was the target.

The Bangalore police also insisted it was a “small group trying to create panic” and not a conspiracy to target the technological establishment.

Home Minsiter Shivraj Patil assured the IT firms of a heightened security cover and said more companies of CISF will be provided at all major installations in the city.

“There was a demand that CISF personnel should be allowed to guard the IT parks. We have agreed to it. But the law allows CISF to guard only the public sector units. So we are likely to amend the law and provide the necessary security to the IT companies there, which have come up so well,” Patil told journalists.

The Minister of State for Home Sri Prakash Jaiswal also reacted to the blasts and said it was time to concentrate on the probe rather than exchanging blame. “The state government should not indulge in politics at this point of time. They should concentrate on catching criminals instead of pointing fingers. Till the time investigation is not over no one can be blamed. The BJP should remember who is governing Karnataka and overseeing law and order,” he said.

Earlier in the day, union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta also apprised the media of the blasts. “These are low-intensity blasts and all concerned police and other agencies – bomb disposal squads, sniffer dogs etc – have been pressed into service. We’ll inform everyone as soon as we get more information,” he said.

Bangalore-based IT majors also reacted to the blasts. Software major Wipro said its employees are safe. Wipro spokesperson told CNN-IBN, “Our employees are safe and our infrastructures are intact. We have asked our employees from Madhiwala office to move out early".

Infosys also assured the nation of its employees’ safety. "All our employees are safe and there has been no impact on our business operations. We are in touch with the police department and will remain fully alert. We have increased security on our campus,” a statement issued by Infy said.
