Main opposition BJP in Uttarakhand lodged a complaint with the Election Commission, on Thursday, accusing the state government of violating the model code of conduct by transferring 25 BDOs recently.

Citing a recent directive of the commission putting a ban on transfers after February 15, Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Ajay Bhatt alleged that the state government flouted the order by transferring 25 Block Development officers in Uttarakhand on March 13.

It is a clear case of violation of the model code of conduct and the Election Commission should initiate stern action against the state government taking suo motu cognisance of the matter, he said. The Commission should also annul these transfers, he added.

Bhatt also accused Chief Minister Harish Rawat of making populist announcements and Congress MLAs and MPs of holding public meetings at state guest houses despite the model of code of conduct being in force.
