Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday assured that a sum of Rs 200 crore would soon be released towards arrears for around 3,000 university teachers across the state.
At a meeting with AP Federation of University Teachers Association, Kiran said the remaining amount would be released in due course.
The state government had to pay a total of Rs 470 crore for University Grant Commission (UGC) towards revised pay scales. He assured that the university teachers would get health cards on par with state government employees.
When association chairman B Satyanarayana urged the chief minister to increase the retirement age to 65 years as per UGC norms as against the present age of 60, Kiran said their demand would be considered later.
Deputy chief minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, association secretary general SV Rajasekhara Reddy, professors P Yadagiri Reddy and SN Vikas were present at the meeting.
