BANGALORE: Are you willing to donate and help the needy but clueless over how to go about it? You have surplus clothes in your wardrobe, excess utensils lying unused over your kitchen shelves, extra pairs of slippers you don’t care about or many more such stuff that is of no use and you plan to give away? If your answer is in affirmative, GiveG, a Bangalore-based website provides a solution by acting as a platform between you and the receiver. All you need to do is jump in the game of giving and donate still-usable things that can be of value to somebody, somewhere anytime.“The name of the website starts with the letter ‘G’ and ends with the same which stands for ‘Generous’. According to statistics, with around 36 per cent of the country’s population below the poverty line, less than one per cent are givers. Moreover, NGOs are dependent on communities for their funds, which they later convert into resources. GiveG in its unique way has come up with an innovative and alternative system of giving that enables NGOs to mobilise resources from within the community,” said Anish Kumar, founder managing trustee. Riddle Anish over why did he came up with an online donation platform, and he says, “I am a yoga practitioner since three decades and a thought that popped up every time during my practice sessions was how to empower people around me. After interacting with many and a lot of research work, I came down to a conclusion that empowerment can be brought about by distributing the surplus. We do talk about rich being richer and poor being poorer but a strategy to tackle the situation is something that has always been lacking. I thought of integrating mobile phones and internet to reach out to as many as possible and join hands with them in distribution the abundance resource that we possess.”The website came into existence two years ago and currently has over over 26,000 NGOs registered as receivers and over 50,000 individuals as givers. “The major difficulty that I faced was in convincing people that they can be the much desired change. Little contribution by many can be a huge help to the underprivileged section,” says Anish.  GiveG as the non-profit community helps the poor, needy and the less privileged to benefit from the surplus, still-usable and excess goods or services. All you need to do is to register as a giver on GiveG.com, list your surplus, and the receivers will contact you. Moreover, every time you give your surplus to the poor and needy, you also score reward-points. “The reward points are awarded by the receiver to the giver online. These points act as a motivating factor and also is measure of your services to the community,” said Anish.  “GiveG provides a database of all givers and their giveables alongside details of genuine needy (individuals or NGOs). Depending on the requirement, the needy contacts the giver and reaches out to the source. We also make sure that the needy registering at out site is genuine,” informed Anish.According to Anish, this unique way of giving also reduces the chance of misuse, which is highly probable in case of monitory help.
