Generators block the entrance

VIJAYAWADA: Time Hospital at Kanuru, is a fourstoreyed building located in a residential area and is just two and ahalf feet away from an apartment complex of equal size.The hospital has only one fire extinguisher on each floor. It has many facilities but not enough free space. The compound wall is common with the apartment building. Power generators are located right beside the main entrance.The scenario is equally bad at government hospitals, especially at maternity wards where only a couple of extinguishers are seen at corners places.District fire officer S V Chowdary, who visited the government hospital a couple of days ago, said, "We are asking all the hospitals, both private and government to comply with fire safety norms.Talking Express, Indian Medical Association national convener Dr G Samaram said, "We are ready to implement the directions given by the fire department. But following the rules completely will be very difficult for doctors who own hospitals. Only corporate hospitals can afford to build according to the norms prescribed by the National Building Code."
