Twelve persons have been taken into custody in connection with the murder of Saji, a close aide of notorious criminal Choozhattukotta Ambili.
Those apprehended by the investigating team on Thursday and Friday had arranged hideouts for Soju, alias Ammaykkorumakan Soju, one of the accused of the case who is suspected to have executed the murder.
“We have taken into custody twelve persons over the past two days. It is presumed that they are the accomplices of Soju. They were providing shelter for Soju and his aides whenever they fled the state after carrying out crimes,” said Fort Assistant Commissioner M Radhakrishnan Nair, who is heading the investigating team.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Putta Vimaladitya, who is monitoring the probe, also said that a few people were taken into custody. “There have been no specific feedback from the team we have sent to other states in search of Soju. But from the available details, we have taken into custody a few persons who had helped the accused to find out the hideouts,” he said.
Saji, a youth in his twenties, was hacked to death by an armed gang on Wednesday. In the attack by the team near Karamana, Renjith, a friend of Saji, also was injured and he has been admitted to the Medical College Hospital here. According to the police, the gang had brutally tortured Saji to learn the whereabouts of Soju and they suspect that Soju’s previous rivalry with Ambili was the reason behind the crime.
