THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Peroorkada police, the other day, busted a racket which cheated private financiers in the city of huge sums of money by pledging fake gold ornaments. The police arrested three major members of the gang, identified as Rajeev, 42, and Prasanna, 40, of Kuravankonam and Kumar, 38, of Palkulangara. Prasanna is the sister-in-law of Rajeev. The police said that the modus operandi of the racketeers was to pledge gold-plated ornaments with the money lenders to obtain money in return. The fake ornaments were made by Kumar, who was a goldsmith by profession. Kumar was an expert goldsmith who could make the fake ornaments in such a way that the money lenders failed to find out the fraud even if they examined the ornaments closely. The gang had allegedly duped over 30 private financiers in the city in the past years, the police said. The police also seized fake gold ornaments and receipts of transactions from their custody. The police have also got evidence that proved the existence of more members involved in the gang. The racketeers were arrested by a police team led by Peroorkada Circle Inspector Jawahar Janardh and and Sub-Inspectors Anil J Rosh and Ratheesh Kumar. They were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
