BANGALORE: For the very first time in India, the search for the first Karaoke World Champion (KWC) has begun and India will debut as one of the forty participating countries in the prestigious, international karaoke event- McDowell’s Karaoke World Championship Indian Trials, in association with VH1, as the Indian chapter.The Karaoke World Championships are conducted annually every September, drawing participation globally to battle for the world championship title.The member countries conduct local and national karaoke competitions and send winners to participate in the Karaoke World Championships (KWC).This year the KWC will take place in Ireland from September 8 to 10.Brought to India by Savio D’Sa in assosiation with Nash Events, the first-ever Indian KWC city trials was held in various Indian cities including Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Goa, Kolkata and Ludhiana.Winners of city trials have qualified for the zonal finals and three zonal finalists from each zone will comprise of twelve grand finalists to compete for the KWC Indian Grand Finale title, on August 6 in Mumbai.The South zonal finals happened in Bangalore on July 28 at Kyra. Judges Rajeev Kumar and Gaurav Vaz awarded Megha Girish and Clarence D’Souza from Hyderabad the first and second position, whereas Pratibha Parthasarthy of Bangalore was given the third position at the South Zonal finals recently. These winners will be representing their zone in the finals at Mumbai on August 6.With acclaimed celebrities and professional singers as judges, the competition will have both, a solo and a friendship (group) round.The winning group of friends will get the chance to meet and greet the dynamic Indian musical duo Vishal and Shekhar.Ferzad Palia, Channel Head, Vh1 said, “In line with its association of all events both music and lifestyle related, Vh1 has tied up with The Karaoke World Championship.Indians have begun consuming various formats of entertainment, and Karaoke gives the audiences an experiential platform like no other.” Lalit Kewalramani who has strategised and is executing the entire property said, “Local Karaoke competition features regularly in various clubs in India but this is unique in itself as it has a credibility of its own.Nothing can be bigger than this when it comes to making a karaoke competition.This is the epitome and is like a world cup for karaoke.” Founder and key element of the karaoke movement in India, Savio D’Sa said, “It has been a constant endeavour for the past decade to provide our talented singers a platform beyond entertainment.
