Seven Maoists, including their two self-styled hardcore deputy commanders, involved in serious criminal offences, on Wednesday surrendered before the CRPF in Raipur.
The rebels, one of them a woman, surrendered at the headquarters of 65 battalion of Central Reserve Police Force at Baradera on Wednesday afternoon, battalion Commandant Satyendra Kumar Singh told PTI.
"The surrendered rebels said they were frustrated with the exploitation by senior cadres particularly from Andhra Pradesh on lower rank rebels and women," he added.
They were identified as Malesh alias Lakhmu (22), Baijanti alias Kranti (21), deputy commanders of Udanti LOS (local operation squad) of Gariaband district, Sukman (35), Bajju (22), Santram (20), Massu Ram (25) and Rajau Dugga (21) Barda Dalam members of Kondgaon district, he said. Out of them, Malesh and Kranti were prominent Maoist figures, who were active in Gariaband, Mahasamund and Dhamtari district region, he said, adding that, both of them carried a cash reward of Rs 1.40 lakh each on their head.
The duo was involved in several incidents like killing of Gariaband Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Pawar along with other policemen; attack on convoy of Congress chief Nandkumar Patel (2011), he said.
Patel was killed in a Maoist ambush in Jiram valley of Bastar in May 25 last year. Sukman, who was active in Bade Dongar areas of Kondagaon, is said to be an expert in planting explosives to harm security forces. The other four cadres from Kondagaon were working as sangham members in the outlawed outfit, he said.
The surrendered cadres will be rehabilitated as per the policy of state government and necessary assistance will be provided to them, Singh said.
