Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal tied the knot earlier this year, opting for an intimate wedding ceremony followed by a low-key reception. Unlike the typical multi-day Indian wedding extravaganza, the couple kept their celebrations simple and private. Recently, Sonakshi shared why she chose to skip the usual elaborate pre-wedding functions, attributing her decision to her experience at her brother Kussh’s wedding.
In a candid conversation with Galatta India, Sonakshi revealed her preference for a more intimate affair. When asked if she faced any pressure to have a ‘big fat Indian wedding,’ the actress replied, “There was pressure, but we were very clear on the kind of wedding that we wanted. If you go back a few years to my brother’s wedding, it was huge. There were like 5,000 or 8,000 people at each function. The first thing I told my mother after that was, ‘Meri shaadi waise nahi hogi’ (My wedding won’t be like this).” Kussh Sinha married Taruna Agarwal in 2015, and their wedding was a grand celebration.
Sonakshi further explained that both she and Zaheer had a clear vision of how they wanted their special day to unfold. “We were very particular and clear that this is how we want to do it. This day comes once in our lives, and it’s very, very special, so we want to do it the way we want to do it, and our friends and family obliged,” she said. Despite their decision, Sonakshi admitted that some friends weren’t entirely happy. “Like you saw Huma (Qureshi) said, ‘We wanted more functions.’ My best friend and stylist, Mohit, said, ‘I want to give you five outfit changes,’ so he’s very upset with me that I only did one change,” she laughed.
The couple opted for a registered marriage at their home, followed by a wedding reception on the same evening, which saw attendance from many celebrities. Zaheer also shared his thoughts, saying, “There was no pressure, but I think they just expected us to have many functions.”
Sonakshi and Zaheer’s marriage marked the culmination of their seven-year relationship. While her brother Kussh attended the reception, her other brother, Luv, was notably absent from the festivities.
