New Delhi: After the success of ‘I Am Kalam’, director Nila Madhab Panda's ‘Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid’ is another film with a social message.
The film is largely based on the issue of female foeticide, but has been treated as an adventure thriller and journey film.
Produced by Sushil Kumar Agrawal of Ultra Distributors Pvt. Ltd., it features child actors Lehar Khan and Krishang Trivedi as protagonists along with ‘I Am Kalam’ star Harsh Mayar.
Parvin Dabas, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Rahul Singh, Suhasini Mulay and V.M. Badola are also part of the cast.
Neela Madhab Panda’s debut film ‘I Am Kalam’ won accolades at several film festivals before making it to cinema halls. Though the film didn’t receive a huge commercial success, but it gained the critical praises. Now, the director is ready with his second film ‘Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid’.
‘Jalpari’ is also a children’s film but this time Panda is more vocal about the issue. A family travels to a village in Haryana all the way from Delhi. The children of the family find the village very different than the village of their dreams. However, they befriend some local children, but all their happiness comes to an end when they discover a horrifying trend of the village.
A film with a strong social message needs delicate handling and thus the director Nila Madhab Panda will be under pressure to deliver a good film. The film is releasing alongside ‘Joker’ and ‘I M 24’ on August 31.
