PUDUCHERRY: At a time when nearly 4000 retrenched workers engaged by the previous Congress government were without livelihood, the justification of fresh engagement of workers in government bodies by-passing the employment exchange has been questioned by the Congress.Union minister of state for Prime Ministers Office , V Narayanasamy, indicating the double standards of chief minister N Rangasamy, said that on one hand the chief minister had justified the retrenchment of 4000 workers by stating that retaining them was not possible as the government did not have the finances to pay them. But on the other hand the government had been continuously engaging new workers at the Indira Gandhi (government) Medical College and Post graduate Institute, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), PONLAIT and the dental college. From where is he getting finances to pay them when he justified the retrenchment on financial grounds, asked Narayanasamy. Further, he asked the chief minister whether he had done the process through the employment exchange or was it a backdoor employment by engaging workers from his constituency alone.Leader of opposition and former chief minister V Vaithilingam said that an inquiry commission would unearth the truth and added that if personnel were required, Rangasamy could have selected the retrenched workers.
