BANGALORE: The Kodigehalli police arrested a quack and her husband for allegedly kidnapping a two-yearold boy. The accused are Vani alias Divya (30), a native of Sulya in Mangalore presently residing in Thindlu, and her husband Rajesh alias Ramesh Raju (36).According to the police, Vani allegedly claimed herself to be an Ayurvedic doctor and put up name plates as Dr Divya, BAMS and Dr Asha, BAMS.She had opened a clinic named Om Sri Guru Raghavendra Ayurvedic Care Centre in Canara Bank Layout.Though she was not trained, she had kept medical apparatus at the clinic.“The couple got close with their neighbour, Srikanth and Roopa, and pretended to be affectionate towards the couple’s two-year-old son Sanup, and often asked them to send the boy to their house.As Vani and Rajesh did not have children, the couple had agreed to send their son.On September 29, the couple duped their neighbours by telling them that they were going for a wedding and borrowed 135 grams of gold ornaments.They also took Sanup along with them and kidnapped him,” the police explained.Later the police swung into action and learnt that the couple were in Udupi.With the co-operation of Udupi Town police, the couple were arrested and the boy was rescued.The police have also recovered 135 grams of jewels from them.Police have registered a case and investigations are on.
