It was a repeat of 2003 for residents of Tumudibandh block in Kandhamal district. Flood water of Jhuri nullah entered houses in Budapada, Badasahi, Malipada and Bazarsahi following heavy rain on Thursday night. With flood water submerging roads, Belaghar, Gumma and Jhiripani remained cut-off.

In Mundigada panchayat, cycles and motorcycles besides other belongings were reportedly washed away. The block had witnessed extensive damage during 2003 flood but if locals are to be believed, this time the situation is more furious.

Meanwhile, two relief camps have been opened for the flood-affected at Tumudibandh Block Colony UP School and Government UP School under the supervision of School Inspector Maheswar Majhi and BRCC Bulu Nayak. The flood water also washed away a culvert, uprooted trees and electric pole near Matrugaon disrupting road communication.

Similar was the sight at Kotagarh area with communication snapped between Kotagarh and Srirampur. In Barilingi village, a few houses collapsed and a hill caved in with water overflowing from the Kanu river.

In-charge Tumudibandh BDO Druba Suna and Tehsildar Krushna Chandra Gouda along with health officials visited the affected areas on Friday. Tumudibandh had recorded around 200 mm rainfall, the previous day, which is continuing unabated. However, the revenue officials said as the rain stopped in the evening, the flood water is likely to recede by night.
