THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Flats would be given financial assistance for setting up waste disposal units, a special Cabinet meeting held here on Friday evening decided.The Cabinet also decided to establish the first of the three regional waste disposal plants planned in the state at Brahmapuram, Kochi.Financial assistance of Rs15,000 and more would be provided to flats for setting up waste disposal mechanism.“Each unit in an apartment complex would get Rs 500,” Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said.“If there are more units, then the financial assistance would be increased,” he said.“A similar project for individual households is being finalised,” he said.“The government wishes to encourage decentralised waste disposal.Setting an example, bio-waste units would be set up at the official residences of the ministers and important government offices,” he said.The first plant at Brahmapuram, would come up on 10 acres.An additional 10 to 15 acres would be kept aside for developing a green belt and for future development purposes
