New Delhi: Mozilla announced that the regional launches of the first Firefox OS smartphones will begin soon. Deutsche Telekom and Telefonica will release the first Firefox OS devices - the Alcatel One Touch Fire and the ZTE Open.
In a tweet, Telefonica has announced that the ZTE Open, one of the first devices to run the FireFox OS, will be launched in Spain tomorrow for euro 69, which comes to approximately $90.
Unveiled in February, the ZTE Open is an entry-level smartphone. It features a 3.5-inch, HVGA TFT touchscreen display, 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM combined with a 3.2 megapixel camera. It supports Bluetooth 2.1, WIFI 802.11b/g/n and AGPS and has a 1200mAh battery.
The first phone to run the Mozilla Firefox OS - Alcatel One Touch Fire - was also showed off in February. The phone was scheduled to be launched in June 2013, but has not hit the markets yet. But after Mozilla's announcement today, it seems that that the company will roll out the phone soon.
The One Touch Fire has a 3.5-inch HVGA TN display and a 3.2 megapixel camera. It is powered by a 1GHz processor. It has an internal memory of 512MB NAND (end-user memory is 180MB) and 256MB RAM. Its memory is expandable up to 32GB. It comes packed with a 1400 mAh battery.
