‘Weaves: Spectrum of Cotton and Silk-2012’, the exhibition-cum-sale of traditional handloom from across the country, is on at Gokulam Park, Kaloor.
The exhibition has both cotton and silk items on display. Some of the silk items include Kanjeevarams, Dharmavarams, Uppadas, Pochampallys, Narayanpets, Gadwals, Paithanis, Benaras brocades, Jamdanis and Jamawars in the mulberry silk specials and Tussar, Eri, Muga and Kosa in the non-mulberry or wild silks category.
In the cotton section there are items from Coimbatore, Chettinad, Gadwal, Pochampally, Venkatgiri, Mangalgiri, Chanderi, Maheshwari, Kota Doria, Dhakai and Sambalpuri.
In the prints and embroideries section, Tie-Dye, Bandhej, Block and Dabu, Batik, Kalamkari, Kantha, Kutch, Kasuti and Kashida are some of the varieties available.
“The rich diversity of our country has resulted in different regions developing their own legacy. There are hundreds of handloom materials that boast of excellent workmanship, colours, prints and durability,” says Madhavi Naidu, one of the promoters.
The organisers warned the public against the duplicate shows.
