ALAPPUZHA: A sub-engineer with the KSEB here has developed an equipment which can automatically disconnect power supply and alert the officials in the event of an electric mishap.The equipment named Electric Line Supply Analyser and Monitor (ELSAM) was developed by K C Byju of Vadakkekalarickal, Pattanakkadu. He is a subengineer with the RAPDRP section of the KSEB at Aroor.Byju says that ELSAM, which functions with the help of sensors, can automatically disconnect power supply and alert the officials in case of a mishap."It was District Collector P Venugopal and KSEB chief engineer Dasappan who inspired me to develop such a machine. I developed it within 29 days," he said.Byju has been working with the KSEB for the past eight years. At a districtlevel electric safety committee meeting, District Collector P Venugopal had put forward an idea for developing a machine like ELSAM in the wake of many electric accidents being reported in the district. Following this, KSEB chief engineer Dasappan entrusted Byju, who had done many novel initiatives for the KSEB, with the task of developing such a machine.Byju gave a demonstration of the machine before the Collector on Tuesday. The Collector said he would introduce the machine to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Power Minister Aryadan Mohammed.
