HYDERABAD: Surprised? Not really, if you happen to be behind the wheels of entrepreneurial change yourself. So went the message of Galla Jayadev, managing director, Amara Raja and Chairman of the AP Chapter of the CII, as he spoke at his eloquent best while addressing budding entrepreneurs at the open-day workshop conducted by the Association for Lady Entrepreneurs of Andhra Pradesh (ALEAP) here on Thursday. His reason was simple: by challenging yourself rather than time and space, excitement is yours for the taking at each and every step, once you turn entrepreneur. Keenly stressing the need for more women entrepreneurs to help quicken the pace of inclusive nation building and economic growth, he outlined plans of the CII to develop avenues for 35 million jobs by the end of 2022.“The medium and small scale (MSME) sector will be the thrust area to enable such growth. This sector in India today employs around 80% women, but only around 8% of those women are entrepreneurs or running their own MSME units. Hopefully the male-female ratio will balance itself soon which would help tap the immense source of economic growth that women in positions of leadership present,” he said. The college and middle-aged women participants hailing from the city’s urban and semi-urban areas couldn’t agree more. After all, among them sat numerous women entrepreneurs who had scripted their own success stories. And as the day wore on, the audience got a chance to interact with such professionals, as well as representatives from the financial, consultancy and MSME department. There was further cheer among the crowd when Rama Devi, president of ALEAP, announced a PMO proposal which directed 20% of all public sector undertaking purchases to be reserved for MSME goods. The workshop conducted by ALEAP, in association with GIZ, a German organisation, sought to portray the means for women’s empowerment through efficient entrepreneurial ventures. Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha, who was the chief guest, applauded the efforts of ALEAP at encouraging more women entrepreneurs in the state, especially in the MSME sectors.
