New Delhi: A day after Indian intelligence agencies tracked down underworld don and terrorist Dawood Ibrahim's house in Pakistan, the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday launched a probe into his assets in India and Europe.
According to sources, Dawood's operations in India were run by Iqbal Mirchi who died on August 14, 2013 in London. Mirchi sold four sea-facing properties in Mumbai for over Rs 1000 crore and reinvested the money in properties in Europe.
The ED has tracked down Mirchi properties in several countries including United Kingdom, Turkey, Spain, Cyprus, Dubai, and Morocco.
Sources say that the ED plans to seek help from foreign governments for crackdown on D-Gang properties.
On Tuesday, the Indian intelligence agencies tracked down that Dawood is currently living at Murree Road in Pakistan. The wanted terrorist has been living in Karachi and Islamabad for a long time.
According to the information accessed, Pakistani intelligence agency ISI is hosting Dawood. The underworld don and his family hold Pakistan passports. Dawood possesses three passports issued by Pakistan with numbers G-866537, C-267185 and KC-285901.
Recently the Narendra Modi government came under severe criticism over its controversial statement on Dawood's location. Minister of State for Home Affairs, Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary on May 5 said that Indian intelligence agencies were not aware of Dawood's location.
However, Home Minister Rajnath Singh later assured that Dawood would be brought back to India. Singh said, "India has credible information of Dawood Ibrahim being in Pakistan. We will pursue and put pressure on Pakistan in tracking Dawood Ibrahim. India will leave no stone unturned to bring him back."
Dawood, who has been listed as as Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the United States for his alleged links with al-Qaeda terror groups, vanished from Mumbai between 1992-93 and settled in a Gulf country.
The CBI has alleged that he conspired with ISI to carry out serial blasts in Mumbai in March 1993 in which 257 people were killed and property worth Rs 32 crore damaged.
