Earthquake of Magnitude 4.1 Jolts Arabian Sea, Tremors Felt in Palghar

A 4.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Maharashtra’s coastal Palghar district on Friday night, said a civic official.

At 9.52 p.m., the tremor occurred 10 kilometers off the shore at a depth of 10 kilometers, said district disaster management officer Vivekanand Kadam.

He noted that there had been no reports of injuries or property damage. Earlier this week, the district’s Talasari area of the district experienced tremors.

On January 3, an earthquake of 3.4 magnitude was stuck in parts of Dahanu taluka of Palghar at 1: 47 p.m. However, officials did not specify the exact location of the tremor’s epicentre.

Back in 2023, two strong earthquake tremors with magnitudes of 3.5 and 3.3 on the Richter Scale hit Maharashtra’s Palghar in at 5:15 PM and 5:28 PM respectively, said the National Centre for Seismology.

In addition to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquakes were also verified by the Palghar district collector’s office.

As per the National Center for Seismology (NCS), an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 occurred in November of last year in the Nashik district of Maharashtra.

According to the government, the earthquake occurred at 4 AM in a latitude of 19.95 degrees north and a longitude of 72.94 degrees east.

The National Center for Seismology estimates that the earthquake occurred 5 kilometers below the surface.
