CHENNAI: Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) sleuths raided the residence of a friend of former DMK minister for Rural Industries and Animal Husbandry N Palanisamy at Virugambakkam on Tuesday.A nine-member DVAC team led by DSP Ali Basha descended on ‘Senthur Illam,’ the house of M Karthik located in Venkatesh Nagar, at 7 am. “Karthik is the son of M Latha, whose father is reportedly close to the former DMK minister,” a senior Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption official told Express.Karthik studies in Australia and the raid, which lasted till noon, was prompted by information that he and the former minister’s relative had jointly purchased some land. “We have seized some documents pertaining to the transactions,” he said.School Students Assault Two MTC Drivers Metropolitan Transport Corporation services were hit for about 30 minutes in Ashok Nagar after crew members of the State-owned Transport Corporation resorted to a flash strike protesting an alleged assault on two MTC drivers on Tuesday.According to sources, students from a school in West Mambalam created ruckus at Ashok Nagar bus stand by climbing over the roof of 11 G route bus. When two MTC drivers, Shanmugam and Rajaram, asked them to alight, it led to an altercation resulting in the alleged assault on the two drivers.While the students escaped from the spot, other MTC crew members, who were plying on the route, joined the victims to stage a protest. The issue was sorted out after an assurance from the school administration that action would be taken.
