New Delhi: A differently-abled woman flyer has alleged that she had to crawl to the passenger coach after de-boarding an Air India flight because the national carrier failed to arrange a wheel chair citing security reasons at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).
Speaking to CNN-IBN Professor Anita Ghai said, "I was waiting for wheel chair with my friend but the wheel chair didn't come. We kept waiting and it became frustrating for us. I crawled the entire distance. At the arrival hall, I got the wheel chair but not in the bay, where I needed the most."
"I am going to take the matter to the higher authorities," she added.
However, AI official claimed that they have provided a wheel chair to the passenger at aircraft doorstep itself.
"The flight which operated on ATR aircraft landed in Delhi from Dehradun on January 29. Since it's parked at a distant bay it took some time to bring the wheel chair. The passengers were getting down from the aircraft, our support staff actively helped the passenger to come out of the aircraft ensuring any inconvenience and the wheelchair was provided at aircraft doorstep," a statement issued by AI reads.
"We deeply regret any inconvenience caused to the passenger, However we strongly deny the statement appearing in media. We at Air India give utmost importance to passenger's safety and comfort," it reads.
