David Miliband apologetic, corrects stand on Kashmir
British Foreign Secretary changed track saying one learns everyday in this job.

New Delhi: British foreign secretary David Miliband has publicly accepted that he was undiplomatic on the India tour, after facing severe criticism for linking the Mumbai attacks to the Kashmir issue.

The British Foreign Secretary has apologised for his remarks linking the Mumbai terror attacks to Kashmir. In an interview to the New Statesman he has been quoted as saying: “Look, you learn everyday in this job. You've got to try and take that forward. I know words matter in diplomacy.”

In an interview to the daily The Guardian during his India trip, Miliband had said, “The best antidote to the terrorist threat in the long term is cooperation. Although I understand the current difficulties, resolution of the dispute over Kashmir would help deny extremists in the region one of their main calls to arms, and allow Pakistani authorities to focus more effectively on tackling the threat on their western borders.”

His comments had drawn a lot of flak from many quarters in Indian media and abroad, alleging lack of understanding of the Kashmir issue.
