HYDERABAD: A close aide of cabinet minister D Nagender was chased and hacked to death with hunting sickles by his rivals near Moula Ali in Secunderabad on Monday night.Cyberabad police said the victim, Congress leader Vasanth, was killed around 10 p.m. when he was on his way to attend a party. Eyewitnesses told Kushaiguda police that three persons went near Vasanth and started attacking him. When he tried to flee, assailants chased him and hacked him with hunting sickles.“Vasanth was on his way to a playground, near Kapra circle. His car was found near the scene of offence but it was not clear whether Vasanth was attacked after he had got off the car or the assailants accompanied him in the car and attacked him," assistant commissioner of police (Alwal) Ganesh Reddy told Express.Police strongly suspect that land dispute is the motive for the murder. The role of one Chinna, with whom Vasanth had been at loggerheads is being probed.“Vasanth and Chinna have land disputes and the relations between the two have been strained for several months". the ACP said.The victim was a resident of the AP Housing Board Colony at Moulali. Police said Vasanth was known to be actively involved in settlement of land disputes.
