BANGALORE: Pet-a-thon, an initiative of Bangalore International Midnight Marathon was organised on December 4 by the Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor.It received an overwhelming response of more than 50 pet dogs participation.The Pet-a-thon is an initiative aimed at creating awareness regarding animal rights and causes.The event provided a great opportunity for animal lovers to give their pets a great dayout, and a chance to socialise with other animals from in and around Bangalore.The funds generated through the Pet-a-thon was donated to “Let’s live together” a leading organisation involved in helping adopt stray dogs.The Pet-a-thon is one of the key highlighting event leading up to the Bangalore International Midnight Marathon which will be held on December 10 and 11 at KPTO, Whitefield, Bangalore.The Pet-a-thon is an initiative driven along the same lines as the Bangalore International Midnight Marathon.The Bangalore International Midnight Marathon is a run for a cause, the theme this year being “Run For A Child.” The Pet-a-thon began with a 30-minute socialising between the participants and was followed by talks on pet care, pet health care, grooming and other aspects of pet management by Shobana, owner of Muddy Pawz-the dog grooming salon, Anand, partner Anvis Inc-a integrated pet management company, Dana Thomas, owner WAGS which help in pet counselling and Achala who works for “Lets live Together”-which works towards pet adoption.An awareness walk followed where the pet owners took their respective pets for a brief walk.Speaking at the event, Gul Mohamed Akbar, race director-Bangalore Midnight Marathon said, “Pet-athon is an effort to spread awareness on animal welfare and acts as a fund raiser by animals for the animals.Where the Midnight Marathon is all about human causes, the Pet-A-Thon is all about animals safety.This will be the fifth year that Bangalore International Midnight Marathon will be conducted here as the main fund raiser event for RBITC’s social service projects relating to environment, health, community and vocational services.
