New Delhi: The youth, who had posted a prank video in which he was seen randomly kissing girls and running away, and his associate were apprehended by Delhi Police on Friday and released later in the day.
Sumit Kumar Singh (20), famous on social media as ‘Crazy Sumit’, and his friend Satyajeet Kadian (25) may be called for further questioning, police said. Both are students of BCA at World College of Engineering and Management in Gurugram.
The video in question was shot in Connaught Place and uploaded on YouTube.
"The video has come to Delhi Police's notice through media. We have started the initial technical inquiry. This obscene video is available on Facebook and YouTube links and we are investigating this," said Dependra Pathak, Joint Commissioner of Police (Southwest).
A police source told CNN-News18 that Sumit defended his actions during the initial interrogation, claiming that the women seen in the video were part of his crew and knew about the prank.
Delhi Police sources said irrespective of the claim’s veracity, Sumit is liable to be prosecuted.
Sumit has been active on YouTube since 2015 and has posted several such "prank" videos. Following the backlash on social media, he had issued an apology through another video post.
In reply to an email query by PTI, YouTube representative said, "YouTubes Community Guidelines prohibit content featuring things like harassment, hate speech, shocking or disturbing content, illegal acts, and graphic violence, and we give our users tools to flag content so that we can review and remove anything that violates our policies.
"We also comply with valid legal requests from authorities wherever possible, consistent with our longstanding policy," the representative said.
