PUDUCHERRY: The local unit of CPM has sought a white paper on Tsunami rehabilitation fund and its utilisation. Briefing media here on Wednesday, Tamil Nadu state council member of CPM T Murugan and secretary of the Puducherry district unit V Perumal said that the funds had poured in for Tsunami rehabilitation from voluntary organisations, philanthropists, individuals, World Bank and the government of India, yet there was no public information on how much funds had been received by the government of Puducherry and its utilisation for the Tsunami victims. The government of India had extended `663.73 crore in 2006-2007 during the tenure of chief minister N Rangasamy and another `108 crore during the Chief ministership of V Vaithilingam, However `19.66 crore has been diverted and this had been stated in a CAG report. Similarly several rehabilitation projects had been taken up by NGOs with their own finances for which the government Tsunami funds were not utilised.Alleging other irregularities of the Tsunami rehabilitation funds, the CPM leaders sought a thorough inquiry into the entire gamut involving all those connected with the funds and rehabilitation.Inquiring with the Collector was not enough, rather it should encompass the Chief ministers during the period, the Revenue Minister, the then Chief Secretary to unearth all irregularities in the rehabilitation project. The CBI should take action against whoever is responsible for any misappropriation in the project. All seven members of the Tsunami committee comprising Chief Secretary which had sanctioned the Tsunami projects should be probed, they said. The assets of such persons with respect to their know sources of income should also be probed, they added.
