Sudha was arrested on May 3 after her daughter Nirupama was found dead under mysterious circumstances at their Jharkhand home.

Ranchi: A Jharkhand court has given bail to Sudha Pathak, the mother of 23-year-old journalist Nirupama Pathak who was found dead in her home on April 29, after police failed to file a chargesheet within the stipulated period of 90 days from the day of her arrest.

Sudha was arrested on May 3 after her New Delhi-based daughter Nirupama was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her home in Koderma's Chitragupta Nagar.

"The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court of Justice N.K. Agrawal granted bail to Sudha Pathak on Monday as the police failed to file a chargesheet within 90 days of the arrest," said Arun Mishra, Sudha Pathak's lawyer, over the phone from Koderma on Tuesday.

Her New Delhi-based boy friend Priyabhanshu Ranjan had accused the family of the killing. Nirupama's family, in turn, charged Ranjan with rape and abetment to suicide.

Investigators are yet to find out whether it is a case of homicide or suicide. The forensic report states Nirupama wrote the suicide note, found after her death.

According to the police, the three-member team, which did the autopsy on Nirupama, who happened to be pregnant at that time, did not mention the time of her death. Her viscera and foetus were not preserved. The report also made no mention of the injury marks on Nirupama's body.
