The Madras High Court on Monday ordered notice on a contempt application seeking to punish the inspector at Elephant Gate police station, Assistant Commissioner (Flower Bazaar) and the Joint Commissioner of Police, North Zone, for not obeying the court’s order dated January 6, 2011.
Justice GM Akbar Ali ordered the notice, returnable in two weeks, while taking on file a criminal original petition from M Gagan Bothra, son of financier S Mukanchand Bothra of Sowcarpet.
According to the petitioner, he had parked his two-wheeler carrying `1.80 lakh withdrawn from a nearby bank at Esplanade on August 6, 2010.
His bike was taken away by a police recovery vehicle on the ground that it was parked in a ‘no parking area’. After great difficulties, he traced the bike, but found the money missing.
Next day, his father lodged a complaint with the JCP and it was forwarded to the ACP. As there was no progress on the complaint, he moved the High Court, which on January 6, 2011, directed the petitioner to file a complaint and the police to hold an enquiry on the same.
As there was no action, the petitioner preferred the present contempt application.
