HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Federation of Textile Association has called for a two day bandh of over 1 lakh shops across the state on November 15 and 16 to protest against the state government not withdrawing the five percent VAT imposed. Speaking to newsmen association state general secretary Soma Dayananda said the textile traders are being adversely affected by VAT as they are losing out their business to other neighbouring states. No state had implemented VAT on textile business except Andhra Pradesh, he said.
He said their repeated pleas to the state government to withdraw VAT has fallen on deaf ears. He said they met chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy twice in this regard but there was no positive response from him. Traders from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh are moving to other states for purchasing textiles to escape VAT, Dayananda said.He also if the government is adamant, many shops would be closed and lakhs of employees who were dependent on textile business would loose employment.
