An incident of chlorine gas was reported in Dehradun’s Jhajra area in Uttarakhand on Tuesday morning. The situation created panic in the area after which the police officials evacuated the locals in the area. Concerns were raised after the residents complained of breathing difficulties. No casualties have been reported.
The residents were sent to safe places, a senior police official was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun, Ajay Singh, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other security forces rushed to the spot soon on receiving information about the incident.
“On receiving information about people facing difficulty in breathing due to leakage in the chlorine cylinder kept in the empty plot in the Jhanjra area of Prem Nagar police station in Dehradun, Police, NDRF, SDRF and fire team reached the spot and are taking action for safe disposal,” Singh said.
A similar incident was reported in Uttarakhand in 2017 where over 15 people were hospitalised after chlorine gas was reportedly leaked from the water supply center of Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan (UJS).
