New Delhi: The Lifebuoy Swastha Chetna City Meter has rated Chennai the best in terms of the overall cleanliness perception ranking among the top six metros in the country. Bangalore and Kolkata have finished a close second and third respectively.
The major determining factors of the study included greenery and plantations, clean roads, availability of dustbins in public places and efficiency of the garbage disposal system.
The results of the study were released in Kolkata on Wednesday. India's financial capital Mumbai and union capital New Delhi were ranked fourth and fifth among the metros, the study said.
While among all the total 18 state capitals covered in the survey, Chandigarh ranked first with a total score of 144, Chennai finished second with 118 while Kolkata was ranked third with 108 score.
Mumbai (99) and New Delhi (99) were eighth and ninth among the 18 cities covered for overall cleanliness barometre, which is below the all city average of 100 points.
The study was conducted by AC Nielsen ORG-MARG for Hindustan Lever Ltd.
Chandigarh topped in all individual parameters while Raipur, Guwahati, Patna and Bhopal were among the least clean cities, the study found.
