Kochi: The film 'Chandrayaan', based on India's first mission to the moon, will hit the theatres after Onam. The movie, directed by Santhosh George Kulangara, which was screened at Savitha theatre on Saturday, is possibly the first science fiction movie in Kerala.

Mylswamy Annadurai, project director of Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan 2, was also present for the screening.

George Kulangara said, "There have been science fiction movies such as Appollo at the international stage, but this would probably be Kerala’s first science fiction film on India’s successful mission to the moon."

The movie which also stresses on the need to encourage children to dream big as the main theme, is mainly targeting children.

The story unfolds with Abdul Kalam addressing children to set fire to their dreams. A script from the movie also substantiates this.

"Youngsters are not showing much interest towards space science, but a project like Chandrayaan will inspire the youth to do better," a character stresses.

Annadurai said, "The movie is connected with Kalam’s dreams and its realisation. It also provides a completion to the overall Chandrayaan project. The need of the hour is for us Indians to realise such positive movements towards development."

The story slowly unravels the fabrication of the PSLV rocket and the design of the Chandrayaan, at the same time, indicating India’s steps towards attaining its moment of glory.

Annadurai said, "Through India’s discovery of water in the moon, using the Moon Mineralogy Mapping in Chandrayaan, the nation has been able to achieve a position at par with the other powerful countries.”

The movie ends with a powerful note. If children set their mind to set fire to their dreams, they will be able to reach great heights, it said.

Presently, the hyper spectal imaging system, used in Chandrayaan-1 is being used for remote sensing and also has a ground water potential.
