KOCHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday sought two weeks’ time before Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court to file a counter-affidavit on a petition seeking a directive to the CBI to file a report on the progress of the probe into the custodial death of Sampath. The petition was filed by Sampath’s brother Murukesan. He alleged that there were attempts to sabotage the inquiry. Though the witnesses provided strong and convincing evidence against certain IPS officers, the CBI officials were yet to arrest them. The CBI was trying to protect the IPS officers- Mohammed Yasin and Vijay Sakhare, the then Thrissur range IG and Palakkad SP respectively, the petitioner said. The counsel for the CBI submitted that Additional SP Jayakumar has recently taken charge of the case in place of ASP Haridath who was found dead in his house last month. So two more weeks are required to file the affidavit in the petition. !
