CBI making all efforts to arrest accused

KANNUR: Even as CPM district secretariat member Karayi Rajan and Thiruvangad local committee member Karayi Chandrasekharan, accused in the Muhammed Fazal murder case, are making a last-minute bid to obtain anticipatory bail from the High Court, the CBI officials are making all efforts to arrest them disregarding the threats of the CPM leadership.The High Court had clarified earlier that there was no bar on arresting the accused irrespective of the decision on the petition for anticipatory bail filed by them.A public statement made by CPM district secretary P Jayarajan that his party would not hand over the two leaders to the CBI and that all measures would be taken to protect them, had given a new twist to the issue.Meanwhile, there are reports that a team of CBI officials camping at Thalassery are tracing all the movements of  the two leaders.There are unconfirmed reports that  Karayi Rajan and Karayi Chandrasekharan are already under the CBI dragnet and the arrest may take place any time in the coming days. At the same time, sources in the CPM hinted at the possibility of the two party leaders surrendering before the CBI court in Kochi, after their petition for anticipatory bail is finally disposed of by the High Court on Monday.It was on October 22, 2006, that Muhammed Fazal was  killed at Thalassery. Earlier, the CPM had organised a march to the CBI office in Kochi in protest against the decision to list the party leaders asaccused in the murder case.
