Newly-wed couple had eloped to marry each other in Ghaziabad on March 23.

Ghaziabad (UP): A kangaroo court has ordered the killing of a newly-wed couple for marrying against the wishes of their families in Khekra town of Bagpat district, prompting the police to provide full protection to

them.

The panchayat, on Monday, had ordered the killing of both Jamil and Ayasha who had eloped to marry each other in Ghaziabad on March 23.

Ayasha's family had lodged a case of kidnapping against Jamil. However, he got a stay order on March 30 and returned to Khekra with his bride.

Such verdicts will not be allowed in the district and all the involved Panch members will be arrested, SP Deepak Kumar said. The incident comes within week of a Haryana court awarding capital punishment to five persons and life sentence to one for murdering a couple on the diktats of a self-styled community panchayat for marrying against societal norms.
