Chandigarh: A Canadian minister on Thursday hoped a solution would soon be found to the security-related issues between the Indian government and Toronto-based Research In Motion (RIM) that runs the Blackberry services.
Since 2008, the Indian government is expressing security concerns over some Blackberry services that cannot be kept under electronic surveillance.
They have asked the RIM officials to provide them a key to monitor their content and threatened to block their services, in India, if they do not comply with this.
"During my visit to New Delhi, I had also raised and discussed the Blackberry issue with Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram. We all are seeking a solution to it and hopefully we will soon find it," said Canadian Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney told reporters here on Thursday evening.
"We continue to monitor the situation very closely. Hundreds of companies and even government officials in India are using Blackberry services. It would not be the right option to shut down the service, as millions of people are availing it," stated Kelley.
According to official figures, there are over 10 lakh Blackberry users in India.
"We are very proud of RIM that is offering Blackberry services to so many consumers in the world. We continue to monitor the situation very closely," said Kelley.
