While BWSSB Minister S Suresh Kumar has stated that the much-awaited project Cauvery IV stage, II phase, which promises water to erstwhile CMC/TMCs, will be commissioned partially by August-end, there are hardly a few takers for new water connections.
BWSSB, which claims to have completed most pipeline works, is now aiming to increase the number of water connections in CMC/TMC areas by 3.5 lakh in the next 20 weeks. In a review meeting held here on Saturday, BWSSB Chairman Gaurav Gupta said, “Out of the 27 sub-divisions, 10 fall under the CMC/TMC areas. Each sub-division should function in a way to get 1,000 new water connections per week and a meeting on how to proceed will be held on July 30”.
The BWSSB may need time till December to provide the water connections. The estimated population of CMC/TMC areas is about 25 lakh. When questioned on the whether the board has enough staff to carry out this operation, BWSSB Engineer-in-chief T Venkatraju, said, “BWSSB will rope in agencies and will go door-to-door requesting the residents to get water connections. Only 20 per cent of population have taken the water connections in CMC/TMC.”
“About 300MLD of water will be supplied after partial commissioning and areas under Bommanahalli, Rajarajeswarinagar, Mahadevapura will get water after the partial commissioning of the project,” Venkatraju added.
