BANGALORE: After being severely criticized for inefficiently conducting examinations in the month of August, Bangalore University vice- chancellor has vowed to tackle the situation. During the recent examinations held by the University between August 16 and 30, there were reports of irregularities such as question paper leak, followed by mass copying. Unable to tackle these malpractices, the university was also criticized for a disorganized examination system. Speaking to The New Indian Express N Prabhudev, vice-chancellor, said that stringent action  will be taken against malpractices in examination halls. “The situation has been taken care of. There was only one instance of paper leak in the case of a distance education examination. It won’t happen again”, he said.In the second week of August, The New Indian Express office in Bangalore received a call from a parent complaining about the system, the university follows while conducting exams. “My child was subject to an unnecessary delay in the exam schedule and question papers of the next day’s exam was issued the previous day and timetables was haywire”, the parent had complained. There were reports of mass copying in many exam centres where B.A, B.Com and BBM examinations were held.In examination centres outside Bangalore, he said that he has sought police protection to tackle what he calls ‘mafia-like’ situations. Maintaining that the centres on the outskirts of Bangalore have always been problematic, B R Niranjan, director, Distance Education, said that police protection has been sought in the ensuing exams. He added that in centres within the city, sitting squads consisting 4 persons have been deployed. These squads have been deployed in 2 centres in the Bangalore West zone and 2 centres in the Bangalore South zone.Reacting to the case of the question paper leak, he said that a re-exam has been ordered and the students have been notified about the same.
