New Delhi: Another foreign tourist has allegedly been raped in Goa. A British tourist has filed a complaint of rape with the police there. She was allegedly raped on Friday night. Police have sent her for a medical examination.
Earlier, police arrested a shack owner following a similar complaint by a 27-year-old Russian tourist at the Verna police station. Goa receives more than two million tourists every year, a big chunk of whom are foreigners. Russians and Britishers comprise most foreign tourists.
This is not an isolated case of rape in this year. With the celebrations of New Year, 14 men were alleged for molestation in Juhu in Mumbai.
Earlier a British journalist had also alleged that she was raped by a rest-house owner in Udaipur. The journalist, a freelancer, was staying in a rest-house owned by one Parvat Singh. She alleged that Singh raped her on December 23, after she asked him for an extra blanket in the night. The journalist wrote an e-mail to the British High Commission the next day, informing them of the incident. The High Commission communicated the information to Rajasthan Police and subsequently, Parvat Singh was arrested.
The court is taking steps to redefine rape. Sexually exploiting a woman on fake promises also accounts to rape. Establishing sexual relationship with a woman on a false promise of marriage amounts to rape, a court in Delhi has held while sentencing a man to seven years in jail for sexually exploiting her neighbour.
