Boost for city infra projects
Boost for city infra projects

Three major infrastructure projects mooted in the city will get a new lease of life with the state government deciding to allot Rs 125.33 crore for meeting the land acquisition expenses.

The projects including the construction of  Rail Overbridges (RoBs) at Atlantis and Pachalam and the widening of Thammanam Pulleppady Road are at a standstill owing to the non-availability of funds for acquiring land.

“We have got an official intimation from the state government that Rs 125.33 crore will be allotted for the land acquisition of three projects. We will soon hold discussions with the Revenue Department and once it completes the survey and submit the details, the civic body will request for releasing the funds for land acquisition,” said Mayor Tony Chammany.“Though the funds allotted are not adequate to meet the total amount required for land acquisition, we believe the state government will consider our requirements,” the Mayor said.

Though the state had allotted funds for land acquisition, the decision to cut the allotted amount from the annual plan fund allocation create apprehensions among the civic authorities. Recently, the LSGD had instructed to deduct the water charge dues of the Corporation from the annual maintenance grant. Along with this, any deduction from the Plan fund will further affect the civil works that the Corporation undertakes.
