Bollywood hits big, get ready for a movie bonanza
The big banners are back with a bang starting this Friday.

Mumbai: The next two months look like a bonanza for movie buffs seeking out that big budget Bollywood style entertainment.

Director David Dhawan's Partner is a comedy caper that pairs Salman Khan and Govinda in a plot that's ripped off from the Hollywood hit Hitch.

Incidentally, Govinda and Salman's on-screen partnership turned into a real-life friendship on the film's sets. Now how's that for an auspicious beginning!

Comedy will again make its presence felt in Heyy Babyy, which is comic actor Sajid Khan's directorial debut. With a bankable actor like Akshay Kumar in the lead, flanked by Fardeen Khan, Ritesh Deshmukh and Vidya Balan, the picture has clearly got face value.

“It is my way of telling people that not all men in this world are dogs. And sometimes fathers make a better parent than mothers,” says Sajid.

For fans of action and thrills, there's director Anubhav Sinha's multi-starrer Cash which promises to up the stunt quotient from his last film Dus. This one stars Ajay Devgan, Sunil Shetty, Zayed Khan, Ritesh Deshmukh, Diya Mirza, Esha Deol and Shamita Shetty.

Then there is the classic touch and it comes from Anil Kapoor who's turned producer with Gandhi, My Father, a film adaptation of theatre-director Feroz Khan's enormously successful play.

“It’s a true story about the relationship Mahatma Gandhi shared with his eldest son Harilal Gandhi. It is an extremely emotional father-son film,” says actor Akshaye Khanna.

The big one in August, of course, is the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Chak De India, which casts the superstar as the coach of the Indian women's hockey team.

Directed by Shimit Amin, the film isn't your typical Shah Rukh Khan breezy romance, and that's exactly what's got the actor all excited.

“The film is about the kind of difficulties a woman faces when she wants to make a choice and in this case we take hockey as a premise,” Shah Rukh Khan says.

But for fans of good old classic Bollywood, there is that old wine in a new bottle in the form of Ramgopal Varma's Sholay remake whose biggest highlight is Amitabh Bachchan playing the role of Gabbar Singh.

It's a formula that's unlikely to fail. Like it or not, it's unlikely you'll ignore it. So, get set for movies, magic and more in the coming months.

What's your reaction?
