New Delhi: As violent protests in Rajasthan over Gurjar reservation spilled over to the neighbouring states on Friday, the stand-off between the BJP-led Rajasthan government and the community also continued.
BJP leaders and party president Rajnath Singh on Friday advocated dialogue to break the impasse after community leaders demanded intervention of the party high-command. "Peace is utmost important and any solution is possible only with a dialogue process," Singh said after meeting leaders of All India Gurjar Mahasabha.
He said, he was in touch with the Chief Minster Vasundhara Raje.
However, Singh avoided any direct reply to the demand of granting ST status to the Gurjar community.
On Thursday night, Rajasthan government's efforts to resolve the Gurjars' stir failed to yield any results as the talks with the agitating leaders ended abruptly.
"We want the party president to instruct the state Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje to order a high level enquiry and compensation for the firing incident and the killing of the innocent people," General Secretary, All India Gurjar Mahasabha Yashveer Singh was quoted by agencies as saying.
"It is for sure that the state government's laxity resulted in the incident. Now, it is for the party to decide about the leadership in the state," he added.
Sources say the memorandum presented to Rajnath Singh clearly mentioned the dissatisfaction of the community with the present Chief Minister, however no particular demand has been mentioned.
