Bilaspur: In another case of botched sterilisation operation reported from Chhattisgarh, four women were admitted to a hospital at Gorela-Pendra in Bilaspur.
These four women are among the 28 women on whom operation was conducted on Sunday in a government organized family planning camp.
A team of doctors from AIIMS will be attending the victims in Chhattisgarh. According to Health Ministry officials, the government of Chhattisgarh has made a request to send a team of AIIMS doctors.
Meanwhile, the state government has suspended four doctors and sealed the hospital. Eighty three women underwent tubectomy or sterilisation at a government run medical camp under a family planning scheme. While they were discharged on the same day after the surgery, their condition soon deteriorated after which they had to be admitted in the hospital.
Many of the victims are from families below poverty line (BPL) and had agreed to go under the knife to avail an incentive of Rs 1400 offered under a family planning scheme.
Following the incident, Chief Minister Raman Singh visited the victims in hospital and assured help. "This is a big medical negligence. We have suspended medical officers who were accountable for the camp and will also initiate criminal proceedings," the CM said.
