The incident has provoked public outrage, particularly due to the officer being in uniform at the time. An official investigation into the incident has been announced by the Sitamarhi Police.
The police official was reportedly attempting to intervene and separate two women who were engaged in a street fight.
Vinod Kumar, the Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO), provided clarification about the matter in a video statement, connecting the incident to the kidnapping of a girl. He explained that after the girl was rescued, both parties involved visited the police station and subsequently clashed outside. This altercation resulted in a traffic jam on the road, prompting the police officer to use his baton to disperse the crowd, Kumar stated.
